Education is a universal right and a cornerstone of sustainable development. Yet, systemic barriers continue to limit access to quality education for Black communities.

Education drives social mobility and economic empowerment, yet inequities in access, quality, and relevance of education persist. Gender disparities further compound these challenges, with girls in developing regions often deprived of equal educational opportunities.

  • Globally, 263 million children are out of school, with sub-Saharan Africa accounting for the highest share (UNESCO).
  • In Canada, Black students face higher dropout rates and underrepresentation in post-secondary institutions (Statistics Canada).

Why It Matters

Investing in education addresses SDG 4 (Quality Education) and contributes to SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). Education empowers individuals, strengthens communities, and fosters innovation. Each additional year of schooling increases income by up to 10% (World Bank).
