Our Role

Nsawo Footprint addresses housing inequities through

Affordable Housing Development

Constructing energy-efficient and environmentally friendly housing.

Temporary Shelter Programs

Supporting homeless individuals with pathways to stability.

Policy Advocacy

Promoting housing rights and inclusive urban planning at national and international levels.

Access to safe, affordable, and sustainable housing is critical for breaking the cycle of poverty. Inadequate housing affects health, education, and economic stability, while climate change further exacerbates housing challenges through extreme weather and displacement. Investing in resilient housing not only improves living conditions but also fosters community cohesion and economic growth.

Housing inequality is a persistent challenge, particularly for Black communities.

  • In Canada, 13% of Black households live in unsuitable housing, compared to 9% of all households (Statistics Canada).
  • Globally, nearly 1.6 billion people live in inadequate housing, with over 100 million homeless (UN-Habitat).

Why It Matters

Housing is fundamental to achieving SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). Providing stable living conditions ensures better educational outcomes for children, improved health for families, and a stronger foundation for economic empowerment.
